Re: Looking for shoe input and suggestions

Having tried Nano 3's, Inov-8's and Nike MC1's, I prefer the MC1's hands down. Nanos have never fit me well and felt heavy to me. Inov-8's were lightweight and great but they stopped making my...

Re: Impinged supraspinatus Please help.

I have episodic supraspinatus flare-ups due to minor impingement, and I've done various forms of pre-hab, rehab, etc. and even had an MRI w/o contrast years ago that was inconclusive WRT to the...

Re: ACL Rupture and miniscus tear :(

Yes, good points, Sean. TBH, though I returned to my sport, I was cognizant of not trying to twist and cut much at all (I was playing goalie in lacrosse) and I only started playing again because I...

Re: Good flat sole shoe for heel strikers

I used to use NB MX20's Minimus, but the last year and a half I've become an Inov-8 convert. I love the F-Lite 252's, though they don't make those anymore. I think the F-Lite 240 is close to the...

Re: Comment on clean "fail"

I agree that the pull was solid and you definitely could have landed it if you had dropped under the bar. That being said, one thing that concerns me a bit is your foot placement on the landing. ...

Re: ACL Rupture and miniscus tear :(

If you've been Crossfitting a while, recovery should go pretty smoothly, as Zach described. It did for me. Was doing strength work by 7-8 week mark and light plyometric work by 9-10 week mark. ...

Re: Most Durable CF Shoe?

2nd. I have two pair of the MX20v1's and still love them, though one is a bit shreded, and I have since switched to Inov-8 252's for most of my WODding. They've held up nicely, even with other...

Re: Coming back from disk herniation

Check out the "Foundation Training" stuff - it's really helpful for those with discs: http://www.foundationtraining.com/ and strengthens your spinal erectors, glutes, etc. to maintain better spinal...

Re: Lower Back Pain

Generally, radiculopathy (pain down the leg) points to a herniated disc. With time, most resolve on their own, but you may want to get it checked out with a doc to be sure.

Re: Heel pain

I get this too, and from running as well. It's worst when I first get up in the morning.

Typically it's due to very tight achilles and calves, at least for me. Stretch your achilles frequently,...

Re: Perfecting My Air Squat

Keep driving the knees out, which will help with the butt wink. TBH, though, a slight butt wink in an air squat isn't particularly concerning, unless it carries over to weighted squats, which for...

Re: Bar Muscle-Up Help!

Some good tips here. The only other one I'd add is to use a narrow grip (i.e. hands closer together on the bar) instead of a wide grip because it will position more of your upper body above the bar...

Re: Deltoid Pain anyone???

Is it the front of the delt and running down into the bicep a bit? Could be supraspinatus impingement in overhead position.

Try hanging from the rig in pull-up grip for several 30 second intervals...

Re: Dubble under - rope length

Rx ropes sizes a bit on the shorter side, but it's somewhat preference:

Re: Overhead squat & Squat question

Where are you positioning the bar above you? Is it way behind you, or is it over the midline of your body? Ideally, the bar should be directly in line with the middle of your foot when in the...

Re: Concept roller price?

$750 for a Model D? I'd jump all over it. It's not like they don't last forever if taken care of. I found a slightly used one on CL for $650 4 years ago and it's still like new.

Re: Substitution of kettlebells for OLY in Metcons

It's Stu McGill, a spine expert at University of Waterloo in Canada. the data in the article above comes from his study.

Re: Shoe Recommendation for Metcons/Running

I'm between a 10 and a 10.5 (left foot is more the 10.5 and right foot is closer to 10) and the 10.5 Inov-8's (in the wider toebox shoes like the 252, 255, etc.) fit me great. The 195's that I tried...

Re: Substitution of kettlebells for OLY in Metcons

Looks like a great idea, and especially if it keeps the joint pains away. I am also a bit leery of high rep Oly for certain segments of the population.

Keep in mind that in terms of lumbar spine...

Re: midline

I'll echo what Dean says. If you want strong spinal stabilization for your lifts, check out Stu McGill's stuff:

Curl-ups
Birddogs
Bridges and side bridges
"stir the pot" exercise
etc.

Re: Shoe Recommendation for Metcons/Running

I used Minimum MX20's for a couple of years and loved them, but since they started to wear out, and since I don't like the newer versions of the MX20, I bought some of the Inov-8 F-252's. Best...

Re: MRI Lumbar spine

Sounds like a good start. And realize that even if the first PT you work with doesn't help, you may have better luck with a different one. It may take a couple of tries...good luck!
