Re: Homemade Wall Ball

I have tried cutting up an old yoga mat and taping that on to the outside of the sandfilled basketball type medicine ball. I cut sort of elongated US football shapes out of the mat (same length as...

Re: Scrum sled

This may also be of interest - at least they show some dimensions for the width between the 2 shoulder pads which could be adapted to the team machine:...

A more forgiving homemade wallball

I know there are a lot of threads on homemade wallballs - I tried something different with the last one I made and I thought others might like to try the same thing.

The problem I've always had with...

Re: the rowing challenge.

To work more C2 into your training you could try a not flat out 2000 or 3000 as an alternative warm-up for a WOD. Not every time, but say once or twice a week. You could try rowing that in a...

Re: The Prison workout

Do you then do 9 burpees & sprint, 8 burpees & sprint etc back down to 1?

Used to do a pyramid like that with pull-ups done downstairs, run upstairs to do burpees, back down for pull-ups and so on,...

Re: DIY stuff for the mechanically impaired

All sounds good.

Parallettes to do push-ups etc on are handy and pretty simple and cheap to make. No special tools required - just a hand saw. There'll be plenty of links on here.

Out of...

Re: Wall ball sans wall?

That's what I do. The wall is useful as a target to keep you honest on how high you're throwing but I don't think it adds anything more.

"Beach acrobatics" old-time photos

Friday afternoon (for me!) and I just saw this which I thought people might find interesting - slideshow of photos (WFS) from the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper in Australia - acrobatics on Sydney's...

Re: Smith Machine?

Drew - a WFS link posted on a thread under "Exercises" today (title something like "Exercises to avoid") that might be of use to you. I'm sure there are heaps of other links out there, but this one...

Re: How can I build a squat rack?

For cheap simple and portable, you could add sawhorses (as safety rails) to the squat stands.

Various threads on here for making squat racks - try typing "homemade" and "squat" into the advanced...

Re: Older crossfitter, timing and tempo

Hi Mike. Hope the recovery continues well. No science here, but I'll just tell you what I do and how I feel. I'm 48, around 6' and 210lb. Up until a couple of years ago I was still playing rugby,...

Re: Smith Machine?

I know this doesn't help you, but what do you think he means by saying "this is a functional training cage only"?

Re: Crossfit at home

Teddy, as others say, with what you have and reading theFAQ's, comments and message board for substitutions for exercises in the WOD, you will be not need anything more to do most WOD's. If you're...

Re: Rugby Team

Andrew, what Melody says sounds about right. I think you need to see what the team practices are like to gauge whether you can do other training on those days. If they're flogging you at training,...

Re: Ball Slam substitution

Although you won't then have something you can use when a sledgehammer is needed (admittedly for most of us that isn't often).

Re: The joys of free power racks (missing parts)

Aaron Bennett's posts came up while I was typing mine - his sketch is pretty much what I was thinking of.

Re: The joys of free power racks (missing parts)

The simplest thing to use for the "hooks" would be bolts, say 8 inches long, and as near as possible to the thickness of the holes through the uprights of the squat rack. That would give you about 4...

Re: Fran ?

Ryan, to attempt to answer your question, yes Fran is sometimes (probably a few times a year) the WOD. Cindy comes up about as often, and others of the "girls" come up regularly although probably a...

Re: Should I start crossfit?

Scott - I started at probably a similar point to you 3 or 4 years ago - maybe 3 or 4 years older, 20lb lighter and a bit longer after having knee cartilages removed, but along the same lines. If...

Re: Making a Slam Ball - Diameter for Basketball?

I had previously made wallballs that were full of sand, with little or no give in them. A bit hard on the hands when catching. Made another one mixing in foam pellets (like from a beanbag) with the...

Re: Damper setting: 2k vs 5k

I'm just getting back into training on the C2 with some regularity, after several years away from it (enough years away that there weren't drag settings when I previously used one consistently). So...

Re: York Globe DB

My suggestion for what it's worth - if you want to sell it, don't do anything to it. See what someone will pay for it - it may be that they would pay more in its untouched state. If you get any...

Re: parallettes

Burpees. Saw on a thread here once that raising the hands slightly in the burpee can assist in avoiding lower back pain (which I sometimes would get from them). Have found that helpful. But mainly...

Re: Body Fat % Testing

It's probably been said in a slightly different way, but it would probably be most useful for CF-ers to go for a method that you can repeat at intervals, the point being not to try to get an accurate...
