Re: chest to bar pullups??

Do you also do kipping pull-ups? Chest-to-bar pull-ups are SO much easier than strict.

If you build your lat strength by rows, this increases the height/strength of your kip.

If you mean between now and when you have to submit a 14.2 score...well, there's probably not much that you are going to change between now and then unless it is through technique.

Re: chest to bar pullups??

For most workouts unless otherwise specified you'll want to kip, that extra momentum is what's going to get your over that bar. I made the poor decision of trying a strict murph once.......once.

Re: chest to bar pullups??

Chest to bar is unneccesary. Get the bottom of your chin to the bar and restart your rip. Most people pulling up their chest to the bar will end up hyperextending their back to do so too.. not a good idea.

Unless the prescribed movement is chest-to-bar pullups.....

have you tried pulling with a chin-up grip? I have to kip hard to get my chest to touch with an overhand grip, but I can rep them out strict with a chin-up grip.

Switching up your pull-up training may also help you develop the requisite strength-- barbell/dumbbell rows, ring rows, weighted pull-ups.

For me, it helps to think about an explosive pull right from the start.

Re: chest to bar pullups??

I've got the same problem! Yesterday I did 14.2 and got 25 reps, I was so psyched. My goal was 3 ctb and I got 10. Here's what I did: one hand palm up, one hand palm down, big kip. I still couldn't get my chest to hit the bar, so I would "chicken wing" my elbows over the bar to prove my chest was in contact. I know this was terrible form, I have some pretty sweet bruises, but it was pretty funny to watch. And I got my reps!
