I've acquired scabs right at bar height on both shins since starting to work on Olympic lifts. I'm using a good quality bar that has better knurling than most of the bars at the local fitness center. Is this just another area of skin that, like the false grip, will just get calloused and tough over time or will the shin dings be less frequent as my technique improves?

No, you won't get callouses there. Yes, you'll stop scraping your shins as much but it will still happen in all probability. I wear sweats and long socks when I lift for that reason.

Someone, maybe it was you Lincoln, once said that if you're scraping your shins then you're doing the lift right. Or at least getting close to right and not swinging the weight out.

My deadlifts are making some really pretty bruises on my kneecap on the way down...trying to keep my back straight keeps the bar too close for comfort.

That makes alot of sense, Lincoln. Sweats and over-the-calf socks for Oly lift days for me from now on...
