I misread it, and thought he was plugging in the numbers based off past performance instead of past scoring.

Well based on my math and science (and bias and reason) I'd say Rich would have won the Games over a 2nd place Ben Smith by 56.7 points with Fraser another 48 points behind that.

All kidding aside, I do think Rich would have had a great chance to five-peat. His running/cardio has improved dramatically, he's still strong as an ox and can kill WODs with the best. But, having him on the team side is exciting as well.

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

Just "Chris" is good.

I used this year's event rankings with previous scoring systems. Rich wasn't doing the individual events, so he wasn't ranked on those events. I can't score him with the others this year.

While we're speculating, I'm not sure that Rich would have won the individual event this year. In recent years the margin by which he won decreased:
2011 - 93 points ahead of 2nd place
2012 - 114 points ahead
2013 - 72 points ahead
2014 - 50 points ahead

Last year Rich said the Games kept getting harder and the other athletes kept getting better. In 2014 he went into the last two events (Thick 'n Quick and Double Grace) just 10 points ahead of Matt Fraser.

It's possible that the margin would have closed enough in 2015 that Rich wouldn't have won.

Then again, the 2015 Games were such a slug fest that Rich's strong Sunday finishes might have pulled him through to win.

I concur, there is nothing but speculation here. Rich does well on Sundays, I would have liked to see him on the peg board. His cardio is up, his lifts still look strong (hit 365 C&J at the Games) but you never know! I think it was smart to go team when he did. Keep the legacy intact as the champ.

I'm guessing for Rich, they know within a 10 - 15 second window how long it "should" take, assuming you are putting "I want to win the games effort" into it. So they just decided, after 1 minute (or whatever), get off and continue on.

No other way to do it. Fair considering the situation.
I guess that is the only way to do it but that is frustrating either way.

Is there anywhere I can see the mile times for the team 6 mile run? I want to see how the athletes did on a straight up mile run.

Their team comprised of Rich (4 time winner, 5 time top 2 competitor), James Hobart (who has been top 20 at the games) and Matt Hewett (top 20 last year in the central east). The male side of their team was stacked and the way the events rolled out definitely played well for them especially getting three wins in those solo events. Granted they did well in a lot of other events, but reality is that this year with the "super teams" they obviously wanted an opportunity to showcase the big names out there.

In contrast I went and looked at previous years team events, and there were zero solo events and at the most 200 points for just male/female scoring, a 10% increase from previous years and enough to make an overall difference. The male side of their team would be like Crossfit Reykjavik fielding a team with Annie, Katrin and one of their other top women competing. They would have crushed the other girls in the field.

The male side of their team was by far the best in the field and the women were good enough.
I wont disagree that the Mayhem guys weren't stacked, they obviously were. I was just pointing out the fact that there was no reason whatsoever to say that its rigged towards Froning and co. And its not like NorCal wasn't stacked either (obviously tough luck though).

One thing about the 2014 vs 2015 comparison, both 2014 and 2015 had 2 events that were male only and 2 events that were female only. The only change was adding in the 6 solo events. I really don't think that can be considered trying to favor anyone, considering it meant that Froning, Khalipa, Hack, and the other individuals that are now on teams all had to sit 5/6 of those events.

I agree on the Reykjavik women's team though - it would be really interesting to see something like that. Although the 808 women are beasts (won both female only events this year and were 2nd/3rd last year).

All in all though - I'm just glad you didn't say it was all setup for Froning to win lol. Hell, Quad City during regionals was wrecking house until their female had a knee injury. (Woah now, TWO teams that could have possibly beaten Mayhem had females get knee injuries halfway in, CONSPIRACY!!)

Re: 2015 CrossFit Open, Regionals, and Games Thread

Lets face it.. I would not bet against Froning in crossfit. I think that he would have charged ahead and closed out the day on Sunday just like he always did.. except the Rope 2010.

When I saw his team.. thought wow great guys… then looked at the girls and said no chance. Sure Nor Cal down one girl.. that helped the team cause.. sure breaking down the boys and girls and separating them as they did.. that helped.. but they guy can close the show. He sure did lead them to victory.

Glad that Ben and Katrin won.. nice to see new people.. wow go Viking power.
