The 72 miles takes and gives a little over 18,500 feet of elevation. I ended up not going for it this summer after all because of a class III sprained ankle. It's been almost 3 months now and I am still seeing swelling in it after a long day of hiking or back to back soccer games. I am hoping to be trying for the 72 miles in 18 hours about this time next year. September gives the best weather up there so I am hoping my training will put me in a good position to break the record.

Sorry it's taken me this long to respond, Tim. I have been out West for quite a while over the summer, and I lacked internet out there.
