Do I misunderstand the "New Posts" feature?

Quick question... I've tried the Search feature, but the keywords are a little ubiquitous to generate data I can interpret. On other boards I'm part of, the "New Posts" button will show me threads which have been updated since my last visit, across all forums. Here, whenever I try this feature, it only displays the "Starting" forum, including threads that date back well beyond my last visit.

Is there a quick way to view updated threads, or am I SOL?

You have to mark the forums read under quick links after each visit.
