Weighted backpack

I found an old backpack in my closet and thought this would be a cheap alternative to purchasing a weighted vest. I took it to the gym and it worked pretty well for some weighted dips and pullups. I quickly realized however, that the backpack's straps probably weren't designed to hold too much weight and I'll need to reinforce them somehow, last thing I need would be a blown strap in the middle of a dip. Has anyone reinforced or know how to reinforce the straps on a backpack??
