Hi Guys,

Matthew Toupalik and I are going to start trying to get together once a month on Saturdays to do some Crossfit related workouts. In addition we are trying to set up some obstacle course stuff (I have a pretty big yard). If any of you guys in the nearby mid-west (Kalamazoo is located halfway between Chicago and Detroit) are interested let me know. It would be cool to do some team oriented training. I have a pretty basic set-up in my barn but with the addition of an obstacle course we could get some pretty good workouts in......and we could barbecue afterwards.

I live about 2 hours away from Kalamazoo (I live in the metro detroit area, in Harrison Township). I'd love to head over sometime and do some CrossFitting.

I go to WMU, and I don't know when you're thinking of getting together, but I would love to gather and share ideas. I leave for Ft. Leonarwood on the 14th of May for Eningeer Officer Basic Course, so if anything comes up, let me know.

We could hook up this weekend if you guys are interested. We could get the WOD in and then work on technique for some of the O/Lifts and gymnastics techniques.

Send me your contact info via PM if you are interested.

Just thought I'd mention this:

On May 15th, in Midland, MI, a friend of mine (and I am helping him promote it and will be competing) are holding the First Annual Michigan Gripstrength Championships, in efforts to promote an interest in grip strength competitions. The contest information is:

MICHIGAN GRIPSTRENGTH
CHAMPIONSHIP

If you think you have strong hands and wrists, come to the Michigan Gripstrength Championships and try to prove it! No charge for competing.

Events will include:

-Hand Grippers
-Plate Pinching
-Steel Bending
-One handed Rolling Thunder deadlift
-Two handed thick bar deadlift hold

Time: 11:30 rules meeting, competition starts at 12:00
Place: Smitty’s Ironworks, 1111 East Wackerly St, Midland MI
Entry Free: NOTHING!!!!! Free to all.

Prizes for 1st-3rd place.

For entry information, contact Bob Lipinski at boblipinski@chartermi.net or Steve Shafley at SDShafley@ziplip.com

Now, I think that Crossfit style training promotes the development of strong hands and wrists, so this isn't that odd of a fit. We aren't sure how many folks are coming yet, but, the entry is free, and prizes are being provided by Heavygrips hand grippers, Detroit Barbell, and Fat Bastard Barbell Co.

This contest isn't limited to those in Michigan, if you like grip training, and live nearby, come on up.

As a reference, Midland is ~3 hour drive from Kalamazoo.

Regards

Steve Shafley
