yet another bumper plate question

I'm ready to purchase some bumper plates and am going through the standard search for the best deal. I'm looking at Rubberman (Kraiburg), WF Weightlifting (unknown), BFS (unknown), and Amazon (Kraiburg) and wanting at least a 45-35-25 lb set. I also ran across an ebay seller with good prices although it seems they only carry kg-based plates (I'd prefer lbs). Does anyone have any experience with the "Olympia" bumper plates sold here? Since I live in Dallas area and can pick them up and avoid shipping costs, this seems to be about as cheap as I can find ($309 for pairs of 20-15-10-5kg).

Thanks,
John

Re: yet another bumper plate question

The Olympia plates are not solid rubber bumpers. They are steel covered with rubber.

Re: yet another bumper plate question

Were it not for shipping I'd buy a full set of Kraiburgs from roguefitness.com. Shipping is high to me but perhaps more reasonable for you:

But if you just want to start with a pair of 10ks/25lbs Pendlay might be the best deal because his price includes shipping:

While I have a feeling the metal+rubber is fine for most home applications, for $14 more to have a pair of full rubber, delivered, is the better buy.

Re: Hi-Temp
That is the Wichita Falls Weightlifting bumper brand.
I've been pleased with my 45-35-25 set, though I wish I had 10# plates. I later made some plywood-trainer plates (traced 2 45# plates, cut the shape with a saber saw) that work well for light weights, but I can only use them on grass; dropping them on cement would crack them.

Re: yet another bumper plate question

Search York on the CF boards, believe her name is Allison, rep for York, could help with pricing.
Check with Jon Gilson at againfaster, but freight will be an issue.

Check with some Oly lifters/gym in your area, someone should be able to order you some bumpers. BTW, I'd recommend Kilo's over pounds, as Oly talk is in Kilos. I have LB bumpers, wish I would have gotten Kilo's as I lift with local Oly team and it's a pain to convert. JMHO.

Re: yet another bumper plate question

I have been beating the bushes today trying to get the best shipping rates for everyone that has inquired. It boils down to:

$125.50 to ship anywhere East of the Rockies, going further West the cost is greater. I will get an exact quote for anyone that needs it. I did some more digging and found that you can get the one set which is 260lbs or up to 500lbs for that rate. It is a pallet load, so if you wanted more weight you can spread the shipping cost over more lbs.

So the total for the Kraiburg Bumper Set of 10's, 15's, 25's, 35's & 45's if you live East of the Rockies is $450.50

Shoot me an email if you have any other questions,

Hey Bill,

You quoted me $125.50 for shipping a set of your bumpers; so you're saying its the same shipping for almost 2 sets of bumpers (500lbs vs 260)? I've gotta find someone down here that wants to place an order together...

Re: yet another bumper plate question

Mike,

Yeah the set falls right into the window for that $125.50, find a buddy to fill up the pallet and it is a better deal.
