My first "My gym sucks" story! I'm a real crossfitter now!

Unable to mooch off of my friend's private gym memberships or find a decent post gym any longer, I finally had to use the VT campus gym for a workout.

They have no bumper plates at all, so while I was annoyed, I understood the following sign posted:

"Due to equipment concerns the following lifts are prohibited: Snatches, Cleans and Jerks."

****ed off that I can do the workout I wanted to I decide to get inside the squat rack make the day a ME military press day. After my first set, the staffer on duty comes over and tells me that I'm not allowed to do jerks. So I kindly thank him and go back on with my presses, when he , this timme yelling tells me to stop. I finally realize that he's a complete idiot who doesn't realize the difference between a jerk and press (because apparently a slow controlled overhead press and vicious extension under the bar are very similar if muscle and fitness is your primary source of instruction).

So after a nice little spat, involving me politely telling him he's an idiot and realizing that he's not going to admit he doesn't know what he's talking about, I decided it would be a nice day for a 5k run. I can understand not allowing O-lifts without bumpers, but I at least expect the idiots they find to staff the gym to know what the hell a freaking O-lift is and isn't.

You better not try to do deadlifts, or he might think you were doing cleans.

You would have been ok if you were not "inside the squat rack". It was the line of people waiting to do curls that got you in trouble.

Do bent presses and turkish get ups. Neither, after all, is an actual overhead press.

Yeah, because when you're deadlifting 385lbs it's impossible to lower them to the floor without it making noise. Noise=dropping weights which, for those of you not savvy with these types of gyms, is bad.

had the EXACT same thing happen to me. No olys, no db swings, I get funny looks when I do kipping PU, and don't get me started on the sweat angels. I'm actually on final warning re: the oly lifts. Thank God for my local affiliate....gogo Cleveland Crossfit!

Darren:

If he has a job supervising people lifting weights, he had damn well better know what different exercises are and how they are done. Personally, I'd go take that up with a supervisor or just keep on doing that everytime I go there to **** him off (and make him take it to his supervisor). Heh.

Yeah, this is an old post, but that's exactly what I did. And man, was it comical when he did.
