Re: What Do (Or Would) You Drive?

No cars needed in NYC. Between traffic and parking they're more of an inconvenience than anything else.

I'm a terrible driver but I can parallel park with the best of them. I had a car for about 2 months and got in 3 accidents and got towed twice for illegal parking... The first time I thought I got robbed, reported it stolen and then had to pay hundred of bucks to get it out of that car jail.

Now that I'm moving to a place without a subway system I'll have to get a car. I don't want one. I can't follow directions and get so scared by driving that I cry.

For those reasons I should probably get a really HUGE truck.. so big that I need a ladder to get in. And I think chicks look hot in big trucks.

That or a Bentley

Maybe I should just stick to cabs.

I drive a 07 F150...definitely came in handy so far with the snow and everything.

In the summer a blazing orange 95 Triumph Speed Triple.

Nice Camaro, man. Personally, I'm more into fun through the corners than straightline speed, but that's still a great feeling. And, undoubtedly, a monster sound.

Although, you're not allowed to have a Vanquish unless you can spell Aston Martin

NYCs subway system is brilliant; even as a gearhead I can appreciate effective public transport, and NYC is one of the few cities in the world which has it.

There's nothing like a huge truck to make you feel safe. For example... (WFS) Imagine how hot you'd look in that?

Of course, if you can afford a Bently, have one. Everyone who can afford a Bently should have one. May I recommend the Brooklands? (WFS)

That's exactly what I was thinking. Everyone should stay in their homes when I'm on the road.

I would prefer to be in a plane when you drive, maybe a space station. I doubt drywall would protect me from you driving that thing.

ALL VIDS totally safe!

lol....my bad.....Screw the english anyways.

my car doesnt just go straight though my friend, it has fully adjustable shocks and struts, a tubular front end (kframe, and a arms)......It's only making 20lbs of boost right now.....it'll hit 30psi though. I built it to be able to clear 1,000hp at the rear wheels. I almost never take it to the gym anymore though, as CF makes it difficult to clutch and shift on the way home

as far as straight line goes.....0-60 in about 1.5 seconds with slicks no feeling like that in the world.

Here's some video links if you'd like to get an idea of what it sounds like (it gets distorted due to the sound level)

Car on the chassis dyno 2yrs ago, when it was only around 800hp:

Here's the engine on the engine dyno making 904hp last june.

Car running outside the shop:

Re: What Do (Or Would) You Drive?

Nice mullet-mobile, Kevin! I have an unexplainable attraction to turd gens...don't tell my friends. I wouldn't be surprised if I pick one up in the next year or so. They handle pretty well, easy brake options, relatively cheap to build, etc. I'd like to build a cheap DIY turbo SBC w/ an LT1 T56, or something along those lines.

Re: What Do (Or Would) You Drive?

Finially got the new clutch in my VW. I'm happy now. I didn't connect the power brake line though, so now stopping is a lot like doing a poor form pistol. My right leg is getting stronger anyway. I'd leave it like that, except the traction control depends on the power brakes and once in a while that is nice to have. (Note, VW traction control is a lot better than what passes for traction control on other cars)

Remember when driving a manual transmission that you engine is most efficent at full throttle and low RPMs. What everyone says about avoiding jack rabbit starts is because a slushbox will raise your RPM too high when you floor it and destroy all the advantages of full throttle. Push your foot hard to the floor as much as you can, and use the shift points to control your fuel usage, you will save money (not much), and have a lot more fun.

Thanks, I actually am buying a mullet wig to wear when i drive it around in the summer haha!

These cars do that for some reason man, I've had 4 of them....including my very first car. They do handle decently, they're not bad to work on. And you're right the brake options are large for the most part, largely dependent on how big the wheels are. You can get very affordable custom setups made from OEM GM parts that have been modified.....for example almost ANY level of corvette brakes, cadillac CTS-V brakes (15" rotors I think, sick brakes). I'm doing some c5 corvette brakes this winter I think.....its getting hard to stop at the end of the drag strip (going 140mph).

I'll let you in on a little secret though.....forced induction (blowers, turbos etc) don't come in "cheap" haha.....except in relative terms. Even if you do all your own work, there is ALOT of fabrication at this level. If you can't make alot of your own parts, you're in trouble. the t56 is nice, but its big and heavy, I have a tremec TKO 600 5 speed its much stronger and only weighs 100lbs. They're close in price as well.
