Jake's Training Log: Better than yesterday

Starting a log here because once I go off to college my training will be independent of any affiliate (at least for a while), so I might as well go mainstream, in case anyone in the community cares to follow one more damn log. My old log is here.

Super-brief background info: Turning 19 in September, 1 year of CF in August. Before that I was reasonably athletic, was a rower for a few years in high school, but spent a lot of time dicking around with bodybuilding. This post is a lighthearted oversimplification of how I found CF (and that whole thread is hilarious, in case you haven't read it).

Because we all like numbers: 5'7'', 175#, Fran 5:27, Jackie 6:57, F50 32:50 DL 415, Squat 330, BW OHS 5 reps, 1 double-under, 225 clean.

Re: Jake's Training Log: Better than yesterday

Wednesday, 24 June, 2009

Today was going to be a rest day but the box was getting its ropes and high rings set up, so of course I had to go in and try some climbing. And then while I was there of course I had to do something.

~30 minutes of random movements, active rest/play
BW OHS: only got 3 reps
2pd. KBS
1.5 and 2pd snatches
30" box jumps
1 rope climb, w/legs and 20# vest.

Re: Jake's Training Log: Better than yesterday

Saturday, 27 June, 2009

Warmup:
None to speak of

Workout:
"Nancy"
Five rounds for time of:
Run 400m
15 OHS, 95#

Time: 15:15

R4-D4-I4-T72

Not technically a PR, although the last time I did Nancy was with a bar that was slightly too light, a rack, a butt ball and a 400m turnaround. Today was at a track with no ball and a heavier bar. I'm a little disappointed with this, I wish I had slept more last night.

I thought you said you followed my old workout log.

R=recovery level going into the workout. 1=totally fresh, 5=injured
D=difficulty of workout. 1=warmup 5=insane
I=intensity. 1=walked through it 5=full intensity and focus
T=number of hours since last workout.

I started doing that with all my training sessions after reading this one Again Faster article. WFS

Re: Jake's Training Log: Better than yesterday

Sunday, 28 June, 2009

Warmup:
Row (peaked the wattage at 777 or 1:17/500m, a new PR)
10 Pullup
10 Ring dip
HSPU (five reps facing wall with hands elevated on 10lb plates)

Workout:
Deadlift 5RM

10x65#
5x155#
3x225#
1x275#

5x350# (PR) WFS

R2-D5-I4-T24

There's something really great about lifting every single plate you own. If I include the collars and the fractional plates (okay, they're actually 2'' flat washers) this might have actually been a little over 352.5#. But since my steel plates are super cheap and I suspect they may be too light, I'm going to just call it 350.

Comments welcome on the video, or here.

Re: Jake's Training Log: Better than yesterday

Kind of an active rest/play day with two new PRs!

8 consecutive muscle-ups, with a generous amount of kip
1:09 400m run.

A good day, considering I woke up feeling like pants.

Re: Jake's Training Log: Better than yesterday

Tuesday, 30 June, 2009

Morning:

Warmup:
Row
Max ring dips (21)
Lever work on rings (tuck front, tuck back)

Workout:
Push Press-Push Jerk-Split Jerk
1x65#
1x115#
1x135#

Split Jerk
1x155#
1x185#
1x195#
1x203#
1x210# (BTN)

R2-D4-I5-T24

Got what were supposed to be the tuck front/back levers on video, and apparently I have very poor kinesthetic awareness; body was nowhere near parallel with the floor and I couldn't tell. Jerks were also a little sloppy: none would have counted in competition due to pressout. 203 and 210 are PRs by 18 and 25lbs.

Afternoon:

Five rounds for time of:
5 DL, 275#
10 Burpees

Time: 5:32

R1-D4-I3-T6

PR is 4:41, but that was when I was letting myself drop DLs. I need better collars: plates kept sliding and I wasted a lot of time pulling them back on and screwing on these crappy collars.

Overall, a good day.
