Alix's "Let's try that again" log

After a few months in the doldrums I'm determined to get back into Crossfit. I orginally started in April 08 and loved it immediately. So much that I did two sessions a day for about 8 months and then kind of burnt out (in retrospect, gee, what a surprise!).

Anyway, have had more than enough rest and am looking forward to training again - a little more moderately this time I think. I've still go pull up (thank goodness) but need to establish a baseline for everything else. Pretty sure I don't have my sub-20 min 5k C2 right now!

Oh, and I'm going to NYC for the marathon on Nov 1, so I need to do what I can to make that an enjoyable experience. I can't stand running so am planning on doing CF training only for that (CF got me through a half marathon in 2:04 last year (not amazing by any stretch but seeing as I hadn't run more than 5k in the 10 years previously I was quite pleased)), which should be interesting.

First session back
3 rounds
1200m run 3min rest

5:42, 6:06, 6:07

7 rounds
1 min abmat sit ups (consistent 30 reps)
30s hollow rocks (um, I'm complete rubbish at these, plank for last 3 rounds)

good times

Re: Alix's "Let's try that again" log

Friday afternoon session.

Skipping warmup. DUs have def dropped off. Previous PR was 63, tonight managed a couple sets of 15. It was fitness, not technique, that let me down. Sigh.

Back squat 5x5
3 Neutral grip dead hang pull ups between each set

40kg
45kg
3x 47.5kg

Yep, tres pathetique but that's what it is at the moment. The only way is up, right?

5 rounds
10 GHD sit ups
10 GHD back extensions

Alix!!!!!!!!! So glad to see you back!!!!!
You'll be back where you were in no time.

By the way- I went to a rowing cert- spent one day on the water in a scull. Boy, was that awesome. I've definitely got a new appreciation for the C2 and people who row. There were a few olympic rowers there and they made it look so easy.

Thanks for the tips on my log! Maybe we can get together in November-NYC is about 1.5 hours from me.

Hey Camille - thanks for the welcome back. And I forgot to say that I'm so impressed you're a moderator now - cool!

Would be awesome if we could meet up while I'm over there - great idea!

When it's done right, rowing is an awesome sport - so fluid and beautiful. I still have great memories of being on glassy water as dawn broke and getting those perfect strokes and hearing the bubbles run underneath the boat. Those are the moments (oh and the winning of course!) that made those ridiculously early starts seem worthwhile. And the C2 is such an awesome workout - full body and having the readout there makes one extremely accountable - no slacking off when those numbers are staring at you!

Re: Alix's "Let's try that again" log

Saturday afternoon - a gorgeous sunny winter's afternoon in Sydney. Not too hard to take. I headed down to the park. My abs definitely feeling the effects of the last two days.

Skipping warmup
3x 1 min
5 x 20 DUs

Then 500 walking lunges.
Ugh. Totally felt like quitting after the first 200. Stuck with it.
Completed in 19:12. Previously done in 18:53 so not TOO woeful. Thighs are certainly feeling it!

Alix,

Wonderful to see you back at it. You seem to be doing really well for having had the long respite. Keep up the great work!

Thanks Stephen. Good to be back.

Another ridiculously glorious day in Sydney - headed down to Bondi beach for a 3 mile walk along the coast with a girlfriend. More energy expended talking than walking I think! Lovely.

Glad you are enjoying things! Props on the DUs, Alix! They are soooooo hard to master - - I'm finally up to chaining 3 in a row......BLEH! Nice job on Nicole too. You obviously got in some quick runs.

Take care!
