Weightlifting Belt

in his 5/3/1 book wendler recommends using a weightlifting belt on your "work sets"

Now, i've never trained with a belt before, and before I jumped the gun and got one,

I thought I would see what the general opinion here is on the use of weightlifting belts.

And if you do recommend I get one, what's a quality brand?

All sorta WFS aside from some language

These will answer everything you need. Short answer--a belt allows your abs to get stronger and allows you to lift more weight and get stronger faster, and the strength will transfer over to when you're not wearing it also.

I got mine from Best Belts (WFS). Great belt and customer service...I probably swapped about 10 emails with the owner of the company as he made sure to get me exactly what I wanted. The EliteFTS belts seem to be pretty popular too.

Just received mine from best belts today - best customer service I have ever gotten..and a fantastic price too. Give Dean a call and he might even be able to hook you up with a custom size if you want. Can't recommend them enough.

I'd definitely recommend that--my waist is about a 32 or 33 which puts me right between their small (28-32") and medium (33-36") so I emailed Dean before I placed the order and told him what I was dealing with. Since they custom-make each one, he made it so it fits my waist with the prong in the middle hole so I could get about 3" bigger or smaller and still have it fit me. Their Prime Cut belt is very solidly built and is thick, high quality leather, so be prepared to spend some time getting it broken in.

Re: Weightlifting Belt

Bumping this thread... in the process of ordering from Dean over at BestBelts. I am going with the Tapered Suede Powerlifting.

WFS: http://www.bestbelts.net/Powerliftin...ered-Belt.aspx

I plan on using this belt for both PowerLifting and Oly lifting. I am going with the soft finished. By default, the thickness is 11.5mm. I am wondering whether I should go with the thinner 10mm finish, considering I plan on doing lots of Oly Lifting with this belt...?

Have any of you used the belt for Olympic Lifting? What thickness did you go with? Any suggestions...? thanks everyone...

I went with the athletic belt, double prong, soft, royal blue and I love it. A little stiff at first, took some getting used to but, it's a bit worn in now and it fits like a glove.

BestBelts is a flippin' great place to order from too, Dean is the man.

Re: Weightlifting Belt

Ron, do you use your belt for Oly lifting as well? How thick is it? 11.5mm?

Thanks

talking to Dean, he did it more custom and went with a 10mm-10.5mm, he said it would probably be better for overall CrossFit use, and yes I do use it for my oly lifting.
