Is it possible to do crossfit at home?
Ok I'm really interested in trying crossfit but I don't have a lot of money. So I'm wondering if it's possible to do the workouts at home? I mean how do I know how much weight to use, what exercises to substitute if I don't have certain equipment, and how to build up to mastering the more difficult moves (like the push up (for me it's difficult lol), double under, handstand push up, muscle up etc.)? Someone please help me.....

Re: Is it possible to do crossfit at home?
Jill, id recommend you start by reaing the FAQ, link at top of the forum. It will cover most of your questions and has links to lots of videos showing proper form. I still think its tough to beat a good coach but its certainly possible and not required.
Welcome aboard. |

You can also post in "in search of CrossFitters" and see if anyone else is in your position. Plenty of people put things together in small groups.
There's no replacement for good coaching in an affiliate, but it's better than doing nothing. |

Re: Is it possible to do crossfit at home?
Jill,
I recommend a visit to http://www.crossfitbrandx.com/index.php/forums/ (WFS) They offer substitution exercises for the daily WODS from the Crossfit Mainpage, those can be helpful for exercises where you either don't have the equipment or have to scale the number of reps or weight. Most people have to scale in the beginning in one form or another. Check out the Girl Thread on this board as well. Good luck! |

Defintely! Acquire equipment slowly, use your imagination on subs, scavenge it can be done.

Re: Is it possible to do crossfit at home?
Hi Jill, I just started doing Crossfit at home a couple of weeks ago. I joined the Crossfit Journal and now have access to tons of instructional material. There is a Crossfit Training Guide that outlines the key exercises and a programming template to explain the 3 days on, 1 day off methodology and exercise suggestions. I also watch the videos religiously to make sure I am learning the movements.
I know there is no substitute for getting into a Crossfit gym, but like you I am not in a position that I can afford it right now. I am going to work hard and do the best I can until I can join. I am already seeing improvements in performance so it can be done! I also constantly read these message boards. I cannot remember where I found it, but someone posted a huge list of at home workouts with little or no equipment. I didn't save the link but I printed them out - the person's name is Shane Skowron - I am sure if you do a search you will find them. Good luck! |
