Shoulder Pain

I have been doing crossfit for a little over two weeks now. I enjoy everything about it and do not ever want to stop. But over the last 4 days or so my left shoulder has been hurting real bad. First let me say I am in the army so we do a lot of push-ups and with the new pt schedule we have been implementing kettle bell workouts into our routine. I work out in the morning with the Army and in the afternoons i do crossfit. So basically i do some crossfit type exercises in the morning( if that happens to be what we do for the day) and pure crossfit in the afternoon.
Ok to my shoulder. The pain has been slowly increasing but has got to a point where any exercise involving overhead motion, i.e push press, shoulder press and even burpees have become excruciatingly painful. The pain is located in my anterior shoulder around my rotator cuff. I am basically wondering if there are any good stretches to do before working out so this pain will subside. Or do I simply need to rest it. I have been hitting up the gym pretty hard and am real dedicated to getting back in shape. I was just wondering if anyone had some suggestions.

Re: Shoulder Pain

You need to find a doctor that knows how to treat your shoulder condition.

Just stretching aimlessly, or strengthening will not cure all shoulder conditions.

Re: Shoulder Pain

Discomfort is one thing, pain is another. If your shoulder pain is severe then you should get it checked out by a physician. If there is something wrong, you don't need to exacerbate it by trying self-rehab. I hope it feels better soon.

Re: Shoulder Pain

My excellent physical therapist first rule is "If it hurts don't do it!"

So STOP doing anything that triggers the pain. If there is a real injury you are making it worse every time you workout on it.

I have two mediocre shoulders that I work very carefully on keeping as healthy as possible. I torn a shoulder capsule last year and couldn't take weight overhead for 6 month.

Don't mess around or try to work through shoulder pain. It is such a complicated joint and you risk turning a small injury into a big one. Don't know how good of doctors you have access to in the military but if taking time off doesn't allow it to heal then you need to get in front of a specialist. Don't trust your shoulders to just anyone.
