How to properly hydrate for an early AM WOD

Hey guys -

So I WOD at 6a daily and I'll usually wake up around 5a but I know that's not enough time to really hydrate before the WOD. What's the best thing to do for an early WOD and if I can only wake up like an hour before - and how much money should I be drinking? I'm guessing drinking water the night before would help but should I be drinking it right before I sleep?

Thanks for the help!

Just have a glass or two of water. I often have a glass of water and maybe a cup or two of coffee. Sometimes a protein shake (mixed in water) instead of just plain water.

I don't suggest drinking money.

You may be overthinking this. Drink a few glasses of water with each meal. Drink at night if you're thirsty.

Dont do that. Drinking water during or soon after a meal will affect stomach's acid thus making digestion harder (which can lead into all sorts of issues). Drink water at least 30mins after.

Different strokes for different folks then, I guess.

I have never heard anything like that before. Is there some citation for that? Or even more important, is there supposed to be an actual significant or even semi-significant measurable effect? Or is it just some miniscule difference that isn't worth even considering?

Re: How to properly hydrate for an early AM WOD

Water dilutes stomatch acid, changing pH, which is not good for digestion of certain nutritions, like protein, that needs lower pH.

Ideal pH of stomach is 1.5 - 3.5, even drinking 200ml of water can change that to over 4.0

This study shows how water changes pH:

You know that everything you put in your stomach changes the pH of it, right?

Hydration is a process, not an event.
To be properly hydrated you Should be drinking water throughout the day - every day. Drink a glass of water when you wake up, if you feel parched, but that will probably have little effect on your overall hydration for a WOD within an hour of that drink. However there are studies out there showing that drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning does have many other benefits.
