Has anyone here consistenly following the paleo diet had blood tests?
I'd be particularly interested in seeing the impact on markers like: Fasting glucose Insulin Homocysteine C-Reactive Protein |

As a matter of fact, yes! (haha, weren't expecting that were you?)
I recently had some blood work and posted the results here: http://www.crossfit.com/discus/messages/27/31368.html All of the results were pretty much stellar, if I do say so myself, except my thyroid replacement was too high. This might have pushed my lipid profile a little lower, but not much. I am pretty strict paleo, whenever I can, though I cheat a couple times a week minimum. One thing that is distinguishing is that I eat a TON of saturated fat. I eat OUNCES of lard, eggs and bacon, and when cheating, lots of butter. Of course these are all from a local farm that thinks Weston Price is a prophet. |

Is there a relatively cheap and easy way to get these tests done? I'm guessing I can't just walk into the student health clinic and ask for them.

Check your insurance coverage - insurance usually covers a lipid profile once per year. The others I'm not sure about, it probably depends on your policy.

Hey Ben, interesting!
Your lipid profile certainly seems excellent. Ideally (and we're talking about getting it near perfect), your fasting blood glucose levels could be lower. As for the homocysteine, I'm not sure what kind of scale that is. I refer to life extension's guideline of less than 7 mmol/L. You mind if I email you with a few questions? |

Is your "Glucose" measurement the same as is often reported as "blood sugar" on the patient's printout? I just got the results back from my blood work last week and "blood sugar" was 83 (I eat a typical American (i.e., horrible) diet but I'm looking to change that).

Sure Paul, you can contact me through my profile.
Chris, glucose is the same as blood sugar I believe. (Message edited by ssf on November 06, 2006) |

Thanks!
I plan to adopt a Paleo/Zone inspired diet and I'm starting the beginner's Crossfit routine today. I'm hoping to talk my Dr. into doing another blood test in 3-6 months for comparison. It would be interesting to see the results, as you've done. |
